What is Hyaluronidase ?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that can accelerate the natural breakdown of hyaluronic acid. It is often referred to as a reversal agent for hyaluronic acid-based fillers. When the enzyme is injected it dissolves the synthetic hyaluronic acid filler, leaving your own hyaluronic acid intact.
When is Hyaluronidase used ?
Hyaluronidase is used when too much fillers are placed incorrectly, excessively, or unevenly. It can be used for the adjustment of hyaluronic acid based fillers.
What does treatment with Hyaluronidase involves ?
The area to be injected can be pre-treated with topical local anaesthetic cream prior to injecting the hyaluronidase. The injection may sting a little but is usually well tolerated. There can be some bruising after the injection and very rarely patients can be allergic to the Hyaluronidase.
Your surgeon well determine how many units of Hyaluronidase needs to be injected and sometimes well need to inject several times to achieve the desired outcome.
How long does the Hyaluronidase takes to work ?
Hyaluronidase works quickly, with most of the effects taking place within 24 hours of the injection. You should be able to see defined improvement and less filler in the area injected within a few hours.
